Hi Max - We had 130 watt Kyocera panels mounted on the sides. The only problem was the shade from the bimini basically made it so we only had one panel charging at a time (the side the sun was on). So we just rolled up the Bimini when we left the boat for the day. Besides that, they were great. We had adjustable heights to follow the sun's angle (when aboard). And when they both had sun, they topped off our batteries daily.

We did also have a towing generator for use while on passage. Our next trip we'll have some sort of wind generator option as well.

Our contact information is below if you have more questions... and we would love to meet up with you guys if you stop in the Bay later this year.

Hi, we are preparing our Stevens 47 (predecessor to the Hylas 47) and was curious about the solar panels you used on your Mexican adventure. I noticed from your pictures that they were rail mounted on the port and stbd quarters. What wattage and size were they ? Any practical issues with panels there ?

Much thanks in advance. We are on a steep learning curve but looking forward to heading south through California and on to Mexico this autumn.

Cheers,

Hi Brad, Good to hear from you and sorry to scare you - she is still wonderful and we are still enjoying her. We just got out of the yard where she had a nice wax and is looking spiffy. We had gone in to fix the prop shaft coupling and discovered she needed an entire new prop shaft. Recently, she's also got a new autopilot computer processor (the old one broke), new radio with AIS, staysail, watermaker, and new large hatches above the vberth and aft cabin. She's even sporting a HD projector and 60 inch roll up screen in the salon. We're doing our best to take good care of her and get her out for daysails/overnight whenever we can. We also recently learned that you and Laura kept a blog during your South Pacific trip, is it by chance still up? We would love to read about her adventures.

I heard from a friend there was a fire on Pura Vida. Hope she is o.k. Sounds like you are getting a lot of use out of her and allowing her to stretch her legs a bit. I'm glad to hear that. Hope she is treating both of you and Matey well. We miss her.

Thanks for being my first real comment on my blog. And no, haven't gone to the boardwalk yet. Maybe this morning. If not, we'll be stopping here again next week for a visit in the marina with Ted and Melissa.

Hi guys,
Sounds like a wonderful start to your mini-cruising. Did you go onto to the Boardwalk? Probably not much activity there today anyway.
Fair winds,
Tod
